Many people who are starting an online business will begin to read everywhere on the internet that they should be building a list. One of the most commonly used phrases in the interent marketing world is 'The money is in the list', and I would guess that most of you will have seen that phrase a few times already?

Well it is true that the money is in the list, but it must be a targeted list of happy subscribers to make your business flourish. So we will look at three very simple and fast to apply methods for you to start building your own profitable list:

1) To build an opt-in list takes time and patience, you remember the old saying that 'Rome wasn't built in a day' well of course it rings true when it comes to list building as well. You will need to put in a lot of time and effort to build your list from the beginning. As your list grows you need to ensure that you only email goodn quality and valuable information to your subscribers to maintain a good relationship with them.

You will need to be well organised to manage your list and if you find there just aren't enough hours in the day then you should consider outsourcing some of the work. Remember that happy customers will always be willing to buy from you.


It is also a good idea to build friendships with other list owners who have medium to large sized lists of subscribers. You will be able to watch the things they do if you subscribe to their lists, and you will be able to learn from their experience too. Remember that an experienced list owner will have already learned what to do and of course what NOT to do, and you will be able to shorten your own learning curve if you learn from their mistakes.

2) Next I would recommend doing a fair bit of research to find products or services that are in demand. It is often suggested that you should only sell those products which interest you, or things which you have some knowledge about, but that is not really necessary if you research a product well beforehand. If you spend some time learning about something which people want to buy then it should sell well.

3) You must also become an expert in the niche you choose to promote, and work hard to earn the respect and trust from your subscribers. Build your reputation as an expert by writing articles, blog posts and post in forums that are relevant to your niche. You can give your expert advice to people who ask questions, and also you could recommend any products which may help them. Just get into the habit of giving plenty of valuable advice to others who show an interest in what you have to say.


Once you have started to build a following of people, then you should start building your list by offering free reports, eBooks and other products in your niche, and request that people give you their name and email address in return.

If you do this, then you will find that having gained respect as an expert in the eyes of your subscribers, you will be able to sell more products to them over time and you are more likely to get repeat business from those same customers who will come back time and time again to buy your products.

Repeat business is the best way to make sales since you did not have to spend time and money in order to make the sale, the customer just came back to you to buy more products.
